UPDATE: Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating the drowning of a 55-year-old man.

Kosciusko County Dispatch received a 911 call around 2 p.m., Friday, for a missing man last seen in Lake Wawasee near the sandbar.

Several agencies responded, including dive teams from the Indiana Conservation Officers, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Fire Department, Warsaw Police Department, Indiana State Police, and local fire departments.

Authorities arrived to find the man, later identified as Brian Conwell, in the water.

The preliminary investigation indicates Conwell entered the lake to set mooring augers when he began to struggle.

EMS attempted lifesaving measures to no avail. Conwell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Conservation officers have preliminarily classified the drowning as accidental.

Conwell's autopsy has been scheduled.

ORIGINAL STORY: KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- A person was found dead in Lake Wawasee.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory says they were dispatched to the sandbar area of the lake for a report of a missing person around 2 p.m. on Friday.

About an hour after the call, the person was found three feet below the surface in an area where the water was about 20 feet deep.

Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
