Week wraps up mostly dry, but rainy Easter weekend in store
A man attempted to abduct a one-year-old child by stuffing him in a duffel bag, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office. The child's father assaulted the suspect.
Around 6:15 Thursday evening, the sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 call from a home in the Fish Lake area of La Porte County.
The homeowner told deputies he was outside in the yard with his one-year-old son nearby when a person approached him from a vehicle that was parked near the end of the driveway.
The homeowner assumed the car had broken down.
The person asked the homeowner for some water, so the homeowner went inside.
When the homeowner came outside, he saw the suspect attempting to put the child in a duffel bag.
The homeowner confronted and physically assaulted the suspect and took his son in the house.
When he went back outside, the suspect was fleeing in his vehicle.
The suspect was described as a white male with beard stubble, wearing a white t-shirt and gray camouflage shorts. The vehicle driven by the suspect was described as a silver or gray 1990’s style minivan.
Anyone that may have witnessed the vehicle in the Fish Lake area or has knowledge of this incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 219.326.7700.
