Deputies make arrests for boating under the influence

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department arrested two boaters in separate incidents on the Black River in South Haven on Monday.

Around 5:30 p.m., Marine Deputies spotted a vessel that approached a fuel pump at a high rate of speed.

Deputies conducted a stop on the boat and determined the operator, a 28-year-old man from Grand Rapids, was under the influence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and taken to the Van Buren County Jail. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.

At 10:30 p.m., Marine Deputies stopped a vessel that approached a group of other boaters at a high rate of speed.

During the stop, deputies determined the operator, a 48-year-old man from Paw Paw, was under the influence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and taken to the Van Buren County Jail. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
