Deputies identify Vespa driver who died following crash

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 66-year-old man died at the hospital following a crash at the intersection of Montrose Park and Spring Mill drives Monday evening, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.

A Jeep was turning left from Montrose Park Drive onto Spring Mill Drive when it struck a Vespa traveling eastbound on Spring Mill, deputies said.

The Vespa driver, Tad Rheinheimer, was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Deputies said the Jeep had the right of way and Spring Mill traffic had a stop sign.

Deputies believe Rheinheimer may have suffered from a medical issue just before the crash. He was wearing a helmet.

Toxicology is pending for both drivers.
