Elkhart County Parks

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - The Elkhart County Parks and Recreation Department invites the public for cake and punch on May 18, to celebrate 50 years of grinding at Bonneyville Mill in Bonneyville Mill County Park.

Elkhart County's popular mill started grinding on May 18, 1974,

Organizers are also planning to grind a unique grain for the celebration to begin a four-part “limited edition” series for the 2024 grinding season.

Barley will be the feature grain for May's event. Barley flour has a mild flavor and is great for muffins, quick breads, and pie crusts.

Organizers say the feature grain days will highlight a grain not normally used as part of the mill's line-up.

The resulting flour and meal will only be available for a short time.

The barley grinding demonstrations will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This event is free, and the program is open to all ages. Registration is not required.
