'Pedals and Petals' in downtown South Bend

NOW: ’Pedals and Petals’ in downtown South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - It was "First Friday" in downtown South Bend and folks were running with the theme, "Petals and Pedals", enjoyed by cyclists and gardeners alike.

Vendors were selling planters, seeds, and fully grown plants at the gridiron.

While other booths had books on various plants and herbs, and even vintage clothing decked out appropriately in flower designs.

Then, just before 7 p.m., kids, adults, and even some pets, gathered with bikes to ride around.

Lindsey Spaulding, Lead Landscape Designer at The Botany Shop, said "There's so much benefit to getting people's hands in the dirt, or just seeing beautiful things as you go throughout your day. Like it just is gonna make you smile…The community is much stronger whenever we plant a garden, because it feels like plants are the connection for people. And it allows these walls to be broken down and people just to talk."

There was also plenty of food, with barbecue, Mexican, and good old fashion burgers.

Coming up for June's "First Friday" is the theme of "Kids' Night Out."
