EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- In 2022, district leaders began imagining a new space for the Cass District Library Edwardsburg Branch. Now, with a construction bid accepted last month, those visions are set to become a reality.

The Cass District Library will break ground on a brand-new building on May 8th on main street, right in the heart of the village of Edwardsburg.

The current building faces challenges with indoor space for visitors and parking.

The library recorded over 58,000 visits and issued over 920 new library cards in 2023, and more space is needed to accommodate this traffic.

The new branch building will feature upgrades like an expanded children’s area, a place for teens and a large community room.

There will also be small private study rooms added and a collaborative, multi-purpose workspace.

Library Director, Barabra Gordon says neighbors can get behind the changes. In fact, this is something they’ve been looking forward to.

Gordon says, “we were able to pass a small tax increase to fund this project. It's been very much a community led project. We've surveyed the community, we've held community engagement, and we've really enjoyed the strong community support around this new building.”
