SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame puts together a two-game streak with the help of three players in double-figures and freshman Hannah Hidalgo earning another 20+ point performance.
To no surprise, Notre Dame was led by Hidalgo in route to a double-digit margin victory and the freshman from New Jersey isn’t putting too much thought into her production.
“I mean, I just come in and play basketball. I mean, I'm just blessed to be able to, you know, break these records, but I'm just going on I'm out here and playing and then end up breaking them and coaches let me know,” Hidalgo said.
Hidalgo's 25 points ties a program record, set by Beth Morgan, for a freshman, of 13 games with at least 20 points.
“She has a gift. God given gift, and she just plays with so much passion. And I'm starting not to be surprised by the things that she does,” said head coach Niele Ivey.
The Irish forced the Hurricanes to turn the ball over 26 times. 15 of those turnovers counted as steals for Notre Dame. Hidalgo accounted for seven of the 15 and is now tied former Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins-Smith, for eight games with 6+ steals.
“I don't like to play in fear. And I'm obviously trusting in God, and I know he's brought me this far and I trusted my teammates and my coaches,” Hidalgo said in her response to asking if she plans to slow down at any point during the season.
