How rain is hampering planting progress
We're past the midpoint of meteorological winter in Michiana, but the season just feels like it's coming into form.
A long stretch of at or below freezing temperatures is on the way to southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. Highs will be in the teens and 20s, with lows falling into the single digits and teens at night. The one exception might be Monday, as temperatures could hover near the freezing mark for a few hours.
Overall, though, the cold will be constant heading into the end of January. This is great news for fans of outdoor winter activities, as there likely won't be any more interruptions due to warm temperatures in the short term.
So far, South Bend's longest stretch of below freezing temperatures has been January 15-17 (3 days). If you remember, last February had a long stretch of sub-freezing temperatures. We failed to hit the freezing mark for more than two weeks from February 5-20 of 2021.
Looking long term, slightly warmer weather is favored as we enter the month of February.
