Students in Niles help with leaf pick-up

NILES, Mich. -- Many Niles residents have raked leaves to the curb for pick-up, but the city has not planned pick-up until November.

Students at Cedar Lane Alternative Education in Niles decided to help the city with pick-up.

The students participated in their third Spring of helping collect leaves in the city.

“They’re a contributing important part of our community. That they feel like they’re a part of it. That they have value. They have value to give to other people and the community,” Principal John Fonash said.

Residents in Niles who do not have their leaves removed by Monday, April 15, will be charged by an outside contractor who will complete the cleanup.
