State fire investigator assists with Lafayette Building fire investigation

ABC 57

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A state fire investigator assigned to St. Joseph County is assisting the South Bend Fire Department following Monday morning's fire at the Lafayette Building in downtown South Bend.

SBFD personnel and the state investigator began examining the building Tuesday around 9 a.m.

The investigator requested a search-and-rescue cadaver dog to search the debris in the building. No victims were found.

An accelerant detection K9 was also requested.

Investigators say they're focusing their efforts on the rear part of the 5th floor, which suffered the most damage.

Clay Fire Territory is assisting the investigation by using a special 3D camera to document conditions in the building.
