Senator calls for reinstatement of suspended teacher who invited anti-abortion speaker to class

U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) is asking South Bend Community School Corp. to reinstate a teacher on administrative leave for inviting an anti-abortion speaker to class.

A Clay High School teacher invited Right to Life Michiana to speak to a health class without notifying parents or the principal. The teacher os on administrative leave pending an investigation.

“Jackie Appleman, executive director of Right to Life Michiana, said her organization tailored its presentation for a public school visit and did not promote any religious or moral views," Sen. Braun told the Associated Press. “The classroom should be a place that holds a diversity of thought, and students should be given all possible resources to make their own informed decisions. Teachers must not be unfairly targeted because of politics, and I am calling for this teacher’s immediate reinstatement.”
