WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump will announce his Supreme Court Justice Nominee on Monday. ABC 57’s Breanne Palmerini is in the Nation’s Capital to monitor his options.
The president has narrowed his choice down to three federal judges.
- Brett Kavanaugh
- Raymond Kethledge
- Amy Coney Barrett
Amy Coney Barrett is closely tied with South Bend; she is currently a Notre Dame Law professor.
Barrett, the Notre Dame alumna, was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 2017.
The Justice nominee practiced law for two years until she began teaching it. She was employed at George Washington University and then the University of Notre Dame.
Barrett was appointed by the president to the Court of Appeals. Congress later confirmed her, in October.
Conservatives continue to support Barrett and her views. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has praised her.
While others have said her lack of experience on the bench will work against her. Democrats question her Roman Catholic faith and how it could play a role in her rulings.
Barrett and her husband have seven children. Two were adopted from Haiti and one has special needs.
