Police: 50 headstones and statutes knocked over or damaged

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – The St. Stanislaus Cemetery staff found approximately 50 headstones and statues vandalized on Thursday morning.

The staff called to report to police around 7:30 a.m., and Chief Mark Swistek sent out a crew including Greenwood Cemetery to help access the damages.

The random act of vandalism was maintained by police, cemetery staff, and Indiana State Prison Community Service work crew.

According to MCPD, all stones were placed back on the bases. There were damages to some memorials that cannot be repaired.
