Pedestrian killed by train while crossing tracks

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- A pedestrian was killed by a train as he crossed the railroad tracks on Park Place Thursday morning, according to Dowagiac Police.

Just before 10 a.m., police were dispatched to the crossing for a person who had been struck by a train.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 69-year-old man from Dowagiac, had been at Harding’s near the crossing and was walking east on Park Place.

He then attempted to walk across the tracks at Park Place just as an Amtrak train approached from the south.

Witnesses said the victim did not appear to see or hear the train.

The train was stopped for several hours during the investigation.

There were no other injuries.
