Passenger killed in crash on US 20 identified

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The passenger of a vehicle involved in a collision on US 20 east of Range Road Tuesday afternoon has been identified, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say a pickup truck was traveling west on US20 when it crossed the center lane and collided with a van traveling eastbound around 2 p.m.

The roadway was icy and there was freezing rain at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup complained of upper body pain. The driver of the van complained of arm pain and was transported to the hospital.

A passenger in the van, Lena Pera, 85, was conscious and reported leg pain while at the scene. She was transported to the hospital and later died.

An autopsy determined Pera died of blunt force trauma.

The crash remains under investigation.
