NOW: Notre Dame Men’s Basketball achieves victory on Senior Night

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame Men’s Basketball team finished out the regular season on Senior Night in a home game victory against Virginia Tech on March 7.

Senior Night is the last chance for seniors TJ Gibbs, John Mooney, and Rex Pflueger to play in front of the home crowd.

Before the game got started, the three seniors were honored at center court with their families and got a photo with head coach Mike Brey.

Mooney was not able to pick up his 26th double of the season, but did grab 14 rebounds.

Gibbs did well during the first half, ending up with a game high of 22 points and getting five of eight from beyond the arc.

Virginia Tech only managed 21 of 58 for the game, a rate of 36%.

Pflueger scored seven points for the Irish, with an impressive three point shot from the corner.

Notre Dame takes victory over Virginia Tech with a final score of 64 to 56.

After the game Pflueger thanked his mother who passed away in 2019.

“I just want to say thank you to my beautiful mother who's in heaven right now. Without her I wouldn't be here today. I love you mama and we're not done yet,” senior guard Pflueger said.

“When they speak and express themselves. That's what our mission and our university is all about. I get to see them when they are 16 and to see the 3 of them get up on the microphone and talk from the heart with class... It's nice when you win on senior day and you can sub your seniors out for an ovation. That's the perfect storm of what you want to happen on senior day,” head coach Mike Brey said.

Notre Dame finishes out the regular season ten and ten in conference play.

The Irish will play Boston College next during the ACC tournament in Greensboro on March 11 at 7 p.m.
