Mother of one-year-old found wandering alone at night pleads guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The mother of a one-year-old who was found wandering alone at night in just a diaper has pleaded guilty to neglect, according to court records.

Stephanie Doorn pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent as part of a plea agreement on November 2, according to court documents.

Doorn was also charged with possession of methamphetamine in the incident.

Doorn is scheduled to be sentenced on December 8.

Police were called to W. California Street in October 2019 for reports of a child found alone in the area.

An officer located Doorn asleep behind the wheel of her vehicle in an alley and she woke up asking where her child was, reports said.

A pipe and a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine were found in the vehicle, reports said.

The child was taken into the care of Department of Child Services, court documents said.
