MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Mishawaka Fire Department is reminding motorists they need to drive safely in order to keep students safe as they head back to school.
In order to make motorists aware of how they should drive safely, the fire trucks will display signs with the words "school is open, cool your engines."
“And that’s what we want, is to make sure that drivers are aware that our school district is primarily a walking school district so we’re gonna have children out early in the morning and after school and we’re gonna ask drivers to definitely pay attention,” said Lieutenant Tim Williams of the Mishawaka Police Department.
Most schools in Michiana start the new school year during the week of August 12.
