Detectives with the Michigan State Police have recovered 17 travel trailers stolen from Indiana worth approximately $600,000.

The La Grange County Sheriff's Department contacted the MSP Tri-City Post after several RV manufacturers contacted them about the theft of new units from their facilities.

The La Grange County investigation revealed some of the stolen units were given fake Vehicle Identification Numbers and were sold to other states, including Michigan.

La Grange detectives traced several of the stolen units to an auto dealer in Linwood, Michigan. The auto dealer has cooperated and is considered a victim in the crime, police said.

The 17 units recovered include fifth wheel and standard pull behind models ranging from 25-feet to 43-feet.

The trailers are going to be towed back to Indiana.

The investigation is ongoing.
