Michigan State Police asking for help in identifying suspects in vending machine break-ins

NILES, Mich. – Michigan State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man and woman suspected of breaking into vending machines at multiple rest areas and a self-storage unit between Berrien and Allegan Counties.

Troopers believe these incidents are related because of similarities in what the suspects used to break into the machines, police said.

Photos of the male suspect also place him at various venues, police said.

Troopers and deputies have investigated the following break-ins since August 2020:

  • 8/15/20 – Casco Rest Area (Allegan County Sheriff)
  • 8/18/20 – New Buffalo Welcome Center (Berrien County Sheriff)
  • 8/22/20 – Casco Rest Area (Allegan County Sheriff)
  • 8/25/20 – Saugatuck Rest Area (Allegan County Sheriff)
  • 8/30/20 – New Buffalo Welcome Center (Berrien County Sheriff)
  • 8/30/20 – Watervliet Rest Area (MSP Niles Post)

Troopers and deputies have investigated the following break-ins since February 2021:

  • 2/7/21 – New Buffalo Welcome Center (Berrien County Sheriff)
  • 2/10/21 – Niles Township AAA Aloha Self-Storage (Berrien County Sheriff)
