Mayor Pete Buttigieg reacts to news of South Bend Community Schools Superintendent leaving

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend community learned Thursday that Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Spells will be moving to a new school district at the end of his contract.

Spells said that he will be taking on a new Superintendent role in Illinois after his contract ends in June 2019.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg had the following to say:

“I appreciate the strong working relationship the City has enjoyed with Dr. Spells and wish him well in his future endeavors. I look forward to communicating with School Board members about the search process they will undertake to identify his successor and trust that, as always, there will be robust community involvement.“
