ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The Jewish Federation Of St. Joseph Valley is holding a fundraiser to aid in the Ukrainian relief efforts Sunday, April 3 starting at 2 p.m.
Over four million Ukrainians have fled their homes since the Russian invasion. Since then, many abroad and here in Michiana have been showing solidarity in any way they can. The Jewish Federation Of St. Joseph Valley is joining in on those efforts.
It has partnered with three local artists to hold an art show, in which 50 percent of proceeds from the art sales are going towards the Ukrainian relief efforts.
The Jewish Federation’s goal is to raise around $18, 000 to aid Ukrainian families, and hopes the art show will get them to reach that goal. One of the artists, Jim Goodkin will be selling his sunflower-themed artwork, which happens to be Ukraine’s national flower.
“I started painting sunflowers, and a friend of mine who’s really interested in art would come over all the time. So, what am I going to do with all these Sunflowers, because I had about 50 of them. So, then we started talking, we came up with this show, and it will benefit the refugees,” Goodkin said.
The art show is free to the public and will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
