K-9 Faust located a 28-year-old man who suffered a head injury in a motorcycle crash a quarter mile from the crash site, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Dutch Settlement Road and East Street in Penn Township around 8 p.m. Sunday and located a motorcycle, but no victim.

Dispatch received a 9-1-1 that said the driver started to walk up a driveway in the 16000 block of Marcellus Highway but left in an unknown direction.

K9 Faust was called to the scene and tracked the victim and located him in a thick wooded area approximately a quarter mile from the crash scene, reports said.

Deputies said Travis Herman, 28, had an obvious head injury and was lying in a ditch when found.

Deputies say Herman was traveling eastbound on Dutch Settlement Road when the vehicle ran off the road and struck several trees.

Herman was wearing a helmet.

Herman was taken to a hospital in South Bend for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
