Horse-healing services provided for veterans

LAPORTE, Ind. -- Anam Cara, a non-profit equine-assisted psychotherapy facility in Laporte, is hosting a healing experience for U.S. veterans, active military, national guard and reserves on May 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. central time.

Normally called "Fall-In Friday", the event has been moved to Sunday and features a combination of art-making and quality-time spent in the presence of horses, which employees say act as a supporting figure in the search for strong mental health, safety, connection and resiliency.

The event, which is open to all those who serve or have served, is free, and is facilitated by Army veteran Todd Burkhardt and Lauren Daughtery, the co-founders of Creative Arts for Veterans.

While it is outdoors, the event will be a non-riding experience.
