Grand Rapids resident seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Constantine Township

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - A Grand Rapids resident was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Constantine Township Wednesday evening, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.

At 5:15 p.m., deputies responded to the area of North River Road and Winding River Road for the crash.

According to deputies, a 23-year-old from San Jose, California, was driving east on North River Road when her vehicle ran off the roadway to the right.

The driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to lose control and slid sideways across the road, eventually hitting a tree on the passenger's side, reports said.

The driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The passenger, a 25-year-old from Grand Rapids, was flown to the hospital in critical condition.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash, deputies said.
