Governor Whitmer requesting Trump administration to distribute millions of COVID-19 vaccines

INGHAM COUNTY, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer - among others – sent out a letter to Alex Azar, Health and Human Services Secretary, and General Gustave Perna, Operation Warp Speed Chief Operating Officer, requesting for the federal government to distribute millions of COVID-19 vaccines that are held back by the Trump Administration.

Gavin Newsom (CA), Laura Kelly (KS), J.B. Pritzker (IL), Tim Walz (MN), Andrew Cuomo (NY), Tony Evers (WI), and Jay Inslee (WA) were part of this letter.

According to a public report, the federal government currently has upward of 50% of produced vaccines held back by administration for reasons unknown.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has been working with local health systems and departments to distribute the vaccine to Michigan residents.

The state has been distributing vaccines to health care workers and nursing home staff since December.

To date, 150,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed.

Yesterday, Whitmer announced a new phase to the vaccine distribution, allowing for those older than 65, frontline essential workers, like police officers, first responders, state and federal workers, jail and prison staff, preK-12 educators, support staff, and childcare providers.
