ELKHART, Ind -- The Independence Day celebration has returned to downtown Elkhart after taking a year off in 2020.
The 2020 pandemic was the reason for many events and for the citizens of Elkhart to lose out this event, it's special to organizers to be back this year.
"This is one of our favorite events. It’s a free to the community event for the fireworks and for the entertainment. We have food vendors that come. Everyone was just so excited to come back and do this, it was just overwhelming." said event coordinator Sherry Krask
The event is meant to be free for citizens to come out and enjoy the nice weather, music, food, and fireworks,
Vendors even making sure this is not the event to miss after losing out as a participant last year.
"I think’s it’s really just, part of it is just about being back out in the community again and getting to have those events where last year I think everybody was kind of missing being able to be in big groups and even like be outside and just enjoy music and enjoy fireworks together and everything." said event vendor Allison Nicholas
The event is set to end after the fireworks, which are scheduled to start at dusk, near 10 p.m.
