SOUTH BEND, Ind -- Three days, seven rounds, 262 days later, and the 2022 NFL draft is officially in the books.
One recognizable name for Michiana fans in this year's draft is Kyle Hamilton.
The draft took place in Las Vegas, in front of the Bellagio hotel. That’s where this year’s 14th overall pick heard his name called.
Hamilton became the 521st player to be drafted from Notre Dame, joining elite company.
Hamilton will have some big shoes to fill with the Baltimore Ravens at the safety position, following the hard-hitting hall of famer Ed Reed.
"I think of Ed Reed when I think of the Ravens. That’s awesome, I feel like it’s kind of something written in the stars," Hamilton said.
Hamilton has a reputation in the backfield as a guy who can cover the field and deliver the blow making him the perfect fit for a team that prides themselves on defense.
"I feel like Baltimore is getting somebody who can be a cornerstone of the organization for however long they’ll have me. I say that with confidence but also humility at the same time. I’m ready to come in and learn," Hamilton said.
While Hamilton is disturbing offenses in Baltimore running back Kyren Williams will be soaking up the sun in California after being drafted as the 164th overall pick by the 2021 champs the Los Angeles Rams.
