Elkhart Environmental Center is giving away free trees for Earth Day

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Environmental Center is inviting the public to participate in environmental festivities this month.

On Saturday, April 27, a free event will be held at the Elkhart Environmental Center located at 1717 E. Lusher Avenue in Elkhart.

The event is to help educate the whole family about the environment, Arbor Day and Earth Day.

At 10 a.m., guests can grab a free tree at the Adopt-A-Tree area.

Trees are limited so visitors are encouraged to come early.

The public is then invited to join a new habitat restoration project which aimed at helping remove invasive species in the woodlands.

At noon, guests can participate in tree planning and learning about Elkhart’s environmental history.

Guests can see Mayor Tim Neese present an Arbor Day Proclamation and the plant the first tree of the day.

Other events during the day include the Spring Plant Exchange and a presentation about Elkhart River water health.

There will be educational booths set up to help provide more information about caring for the environment.

The event will go until 1 p.m. and will be sponsored by Johnson Products.
