Driver killed in crash on M62 identified

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. – Cassopolis Police have identified the man who was killed in a crash on M62 Monday evening.

Police were dispatched to a two vehicle crash on M-62, west of Hilton Street around 5:37 p.m.

Officers found two pickup trucks in the middle of M-62, in front of the Cass County Law and Courts Building.

Police said 24-year-old Trenton Newton was driving in the westbound lanes when he lost control and his truck crossed the center line. It collided with a truck traveling eastbound.

The eastbound truck was driven by a 36-year-old male from Dowagiac who had a 48-year-old female passenger with him.

Newton died at the scene.

The other two involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. They were still hospitalized but stable as of Wednesday.

Police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
