Community invited to Hidden History panel on understanding the origins of racial inequality

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Community members are invited to another panel in the series Hidden History: Understanding the Origins of Racial Inequality Tuesday evening.

The topic of Tuesday's 7 p.m. Zoom panel is The Struggle for Civil Rights and Beyond: 1900s to present.

ABC57's Brian Conybeare is the moderator of the discussion.

Topics include

  • Black professionals on the frontline the of democratic struggle in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • The Tulsa race riot, 100th anniversary
  • Police practices and the rise of white supremacy; militarization of police and their infiltration by white supremacists and militia groups

The panel is part of Community Grand Rounds, a discussion series that began in 2018 and features social science and medical experts talking about how people of color experience lower life expectancies and poorer health outcomes because of policies and practices embedded in our society and healthcare system.
