Broken pole causes power outages in South Bend, Elkhart area

Indiana Michigan Power is working to restore power to customers in the South Bend/Elkhart area.

According to I&M, two substations in the area lost power because of a broken pole.

According to the Elkhart Police Department, a semi-tractor struck a utility pole around 9:37 a.m. in the area of Jeanwood Drive and Reedy Drive.

It is unclear at this time when power is expected to be restored, but it is estimated the outage will last into the evening hours.

Jeanwood Drive is currently closed between Reedy Drive and County Road 6. The Elkhart Police Department is asking that motorists avoid the area.

According to the Indiana Toll Road, the power outage is impacting communication with all toll lanes. Also, credit cards cannot be run at this time.
