2020 NFL Combine: Notre Dame defensive backs take center stage

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three of the nine Notre Dame players showed off their skills for the NFL scouts on day three of the NFL Combine on February 29.

Irish defensive backs Alohi Gilman, Jalen Elliott, and Troy Pride Jr. all took a turn at the bench press.

For some perspective, the best any defensive back has done at the Combine was 32 reps back in 2006.

The majority of the talent was expected to be in the upper teens near 20.

Gilman used is reps to raise money for rare diseases, finishing wit 17.

Elliott followed up that strong showing with 15 reps.

Pride bettered expectations with a solid 18 reps.

All three will have a chance to improve on their numbers during on-field drills on March 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

These outstanding former Notre Dame players know how unique of an opportunity the Combine is.

“It’s just me working on myself to be better. Strength wise, speed wise, skill wise. And i feel like I’m there to show my progress. In all those events and all those areas,” Pride said.

“I feel like I’m the most versatile safety in this draft class. I’ve told a bunch of teams that. I’ve told a bunch of coaches that. I feel like my abilities speak for themselves as well. That’s why I’m here this week, to show that to everyone,” Gilman said.

“I haven’t really set goals for myself. Of course you come in and you want to test well. I just want to leave it all out there. Being here and having this opportunity, I don’t want to press. I don’t want to think about it too much. I just want to go out, have a good time doing what I love. At the end of the day, I will have no regrets what I put out there because I know the work that I’ve put in,” Elliott said.

March 1 is the last day of the 2020 NFL Combine, and the last chance these players have to impress the scouts.
