Notre Dame grad student faces child pornography charges
A University of Notre Dame graduate student has been charged with one count of child exploitation and two counts of possession of child pornography following an investigation by the St. Joseph County Police Cybercrimes Unit and St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.
On April 13, an investigator was able to download child pornography from an IP address that was determined to be registered to the University of Notre Dame, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Through search warrants, investigators determined the account associated with the IP address belonged to 26-year-old Yuzhang Cui, a graduate student.
Investigators went to Fisher Graduate Residences and executed a search warrant at Cui's apartment.
On Cui's laptop, investigators say they found hundreds of digital video files and digital image files depicting child pornography.
Cui was arrested and bond was set at $50,000.
He is scheduled for a court appearance on Thursday.
Investigators say the university cooperated fully with the investigation.
