Tri-State Inc. employees call warehouse "a total loss" after late night fire

ELKHART, Ind. --- Employees working at an Elkhart warehouse that caught on fire Tuesday night are calling it "a total loss."

Fire crews spent more than two hours trying to extinguish flames at the Tri-State Incorporated warehouse on Old US 20 and West Lexington Avenue.

ABC 57 News spoke to officials this morning who said a passerby called in the fire saying it was fully engulfed in flames.

On Wednesday, the Elkhart Fire Department said the building was too unstable for firefighters to enter the building. A fire official said this morning's winter weather made it "tough" for them to conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

An investigation will be done later this week to determine the cause of the fire.

Tri-State Inc. had a full staff meeting on Wednesday to determine the next steps, and did not want to comment.
