Traffic stop on I-65 results in Meth bust
LOWELL, Ind. – Indiana State Police arrested man for possession of meth after a traffic stop led to the discovery of the drug and paraphernalia.
Dispatch received a report of a red Ford driving erratically on I-65 traveling north near the mile 212 marker south of the Rensselaer exit.
According to officials Trooper Martin Benner was in the vicinity and located the vehicle as it passed him.
Benner then followed the vehicle and observed the driver weaving lane to lane, driving off the shoulder, and braking abruptly.
The trooper then initiated the stop near the Fair Oaks exit.
The driver was identified as Christopher L. Elston, a 38-year-old man from Valparaiso.
According to Benner the stop resulted in a consensual search of the vehicle when he found a 48.1 gram bag of Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, including a hypodermic needle.
Elston was transported to and incarcerated at the Jasper County Jail, where he is being held without bond, awaiting trial tomorrow for charges that include Dealing in Methamphetamine-Level 2 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine-Level 3 Felony, Possession of Hypodermic Needle-Level 6 Felony, Possession of Paraphernalia- Class A Misdemeanor.
