Thieves breaking into cars of churchgoers

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is investigating multiple reports of vehicle break-ins that have happened in the parking lots of local churches over the past two Sundays.

Victims have reported the theft of purses, wallets, cell phones and cell phone accessories from their vehicles.

On November 5, deputies took three theft reports from victims whose vehicles were parked at the Bethany Church of the Brethren in New Paris and the Nappanee Missionary Church in Nappanee.

On November 12, two theft reports were taken for vehicles parked at Sugar Grove Church in Goshen.

The department wants to remind residents to keep their vehicles locked, and if you must leave valuables in the car, put them in the trunk where they are out of sight.

If you have any information or you are also a victim, please contact the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department at 574-533-4151.
