South Bend man pleads guilty to collecting unemployment while working

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A South Bend man pleaded guilty to welfare fraud in July 2017 for collecting unemployment benefits even though he was employed.

Ronald Arndt Jr was sentenced to four years of probation and ordered to repay the funds he collected.

He must repay the Indiana Department of Workforce Development $21,196.

The state says DWD receives new hire data from Hoosier employers and that information is used to ensure people are not collecting unemployment while working.
