South Bend Fire Chiefs awarded Meritorious Service Medal

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s Fire Marshal Stephen Cox on Monday will award two South Bend Assistant Fire Chiefs the Meritorious Service Medal.

Assistant Chief of Training John Corthier and Fire Marshal Frederico Rodriguez are both being recognized for their dedication and duty as firefighters and for their years of service.

Rodriguez has been with the South Bend Fire Department since he began his career in 1972 and will retire in January of 2020.

Corthier began his career in 1979 and will also retire in January.

Both Corthier and Rodriguez have a combined 89 years of service with the department.

A small ceremony with friends and coworkers will take place at Central Fire at 1222 S. Michigan Street on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.
