SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The Morris Performing Arts Center is implementing new security measures that include bag searches starting on Friday.
Small purses, bags, prescription medicines and devices will be allowed inside the building, but will be subject to search.
“Unfortunately, that is the state of play in public assembly venues,” said Aaron Perri, executive director of Venue, Parks, and Arts.
Michelle DeBeck, manager of the Morris, said they made this change to continue to provide a safe and comfortable environment for everyone who comes here.
“This new policy, this bag inspection policy, is something we’ve had in the works for almost a year now,” Perri said.
The following items are prohibited from the Morris Performing Arts Center:
- Weapons
- Any additional items (as determined by security personnel) that could potentially cause harm
- Oversized purses or bags
- Backpacks or backpack style purses
Chemical weapons such as mace and pepper spray
Professional grade cameras with detachable lenses or laser pointers
Professional grade audio / video recording
Guests with prohibited articles will be turned away at the entrances to return items to their vehicle or to dispose of them. No storage or “check-in area” will be provided.
