Mother and daughter taken to hospital after crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. – A mother and her four-year-old daughter were injured in a crash in La Grange Township Friday morning.

The Cass County Sheriff Department said 31-year-old Erika Stoop was driving with her daughter heading westbound on Pokagon Highway just after 7:30 a.m.

Stoop told deputies that she was having a medical issue so she put the hazards on and started to pull over.

According to Cass County deputies, she passed out shortly after. Witnesses told officials that she drove off of the roadway and into a tree on the other side of Oak Grove Road.

Stoop and her daughter were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Officials do not believe alcohol is a factor. Stoop was wearing her seat belt and the child was in a front facing car seat.
