Mishawaka Police, Humane Society check on animals at Pats Pets

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Both the Mishawka Police Department and the Humane Society of St. Joseph County have conducted welfare checks at the Pats Pets store in University Park Mall after a video was shared on social media showing animals in dirty cages without food.

A spokesperson from the University Park Mall released this statement:

“This morning, both the Mishawaka Police Department and the Humane Society of St. Joseph County conducted independent welfare checks at the store and were satisfied with both the conditions and treatment of the animals We have been assured by Pats Pets that staff are on-site during a continuous rotating schedule, and are taking care to ensure the pets are not in close proximity to the renovation work. We will continue to monitor the situation.”

Mishawaka Police's Assistant Chief personally went to the store and posted photos of what he found Thursday morning when he went to Pats Pets.
