St. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – “Clear the Shelters” is a nationwide event that made its way to St. Joseph County on Saturday. The goal is to encourage people to adopt in order to help clear up animal shelters.
The event ran from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This was the first time the St. Joseph County Humane Society participated in the Clear the Shelters.
Residents of northern Indiana say that the event is a great way of helping abandoned animals.
“Adopting animals is the best way to go to protect the animal’s lives,” Paula Lemus said. “I’m all for the no kill shelters and they get full. These guys need families; they shouldn’t be the abandoned part of our society.”
25 animals had been adopted when our ABC 57 crew visited the shelter in St. Joseph County at noon.
