Kentucky lawmaker commits suicide amid sexual misconduct allegations
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Republican Kentucky Representative Dan Johnson has commit suicide amidst sexual assault allegations.
Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell stated that Johnson shot himself in his car, on a bridge in Mount Washington on Wednesday, according to ABC affilitate WATE.
The Congressman was 57-years-old, and was just recently elected into office in 2016.
The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting published an accusation from a woman stating that Johnson had sexually assaulted her in the basement of his home in 2013, and also that Louisville police had investigated the accusations but closed the case without filing any charges against Johnson.
Following the Monday’s publication of those accusations, Johnson told reporters on Tuesday that the accusations were “totally false”, and later took to Facebook stating PTSD was "is a sickness that will take my life, I cannot handle it any longer. It has won this life, BUT HEAVEN IS MY HOME."
