ISP investigating police action shooting in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana State Police are investigating a police action shooting that happened early Friday morning in Shelby County.

Shelby County deputies attempted to pull over a Chevy Trailblazer just south of Pleasant View near I-74 and Walnut Street.

The vehicle fled and led deputies on a chase.

When the chase ended, two deputies fired shots at 26-year-old Jordan Smith. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A female passenger with Smith was not injured.

The Trailblazer was stolen, according to ISP.

The female passenger told police she was raped by Smith just prior to the police chase.

The case remains under investigation.
