GPS tracker led police to stolen Walmart trailer

A GPS tracking device led police to a stolen Walmart trailer parked at a home on Grape Road Monday morning. The trailer had merchandise inside worth over $100,000.

The trailer was stolen from the Lansing, Illinois at approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 2.

The first Mishawaka Police officer on scene located a red semi with a Walmart trailer backed up to a home in the 5000 block of Grape Road.

When the officer ran the license plate, from Oklahoma, it came back as stolen.

The merchandise from the trailer was in a garage and on the driveway of the property.

A person at the scene told police he purchased the trailer online.

Video surveillance at Walmart showed a red cab back up to a loading dock and hook up to the trailer and pull away. The merchandise inside was worth $103,246.11.

Walmart told police the driver of the semi, Josephvon Johnson, was not authorized to take the trailer with merchandise.

Johnson was arrested Monday and charges were filed on Tuesday.
