Fighting Irish Hockey continues hot streak in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Nation's top-ranked hockey team took a trip to Ann Arbor and left with a win.
The Fighting Irish met the Michigan Wolverines at Yost Ice Arena to continue Big Ten play.
The Irish are on a 14 win run as well as undefeated in Big Ten Conference matchups.
Notre Dame Freshman defenseman Matt Hellickson scored his first career goal less than 10 minutes into the first period, and Andrew Oglevie scored his eight on the season on a power play less than five minutes later.
Michigan's Tony Calderone scored a late goal in the first to cut the Irish lead to 2-1, but it was the only goal for the Wolverines on the night.
Irish sophomore goaltender Cale Morris was nearly perfect, with 35 saves on 36 shots, giving the Irish a one goal cushion en route to their 17th win of the season.
With the Irish win came some noteworthy performances.
- Defenseman Jordan Gross skated in his 140th consecutive game of his Irish career
- Senior Center Jake Evans Skated in his 112th straight game
- First Division 1 team to go undefeated in first 11 conference games
- Irish remain the only team in the country without a road loss
With these accolades and win streaks in mind, the Irish return to Compton Family Ice Arena on Sunday to face the Wolverines at home where they will look to continue their winning ways, and hold onto that #1 ranking even longer.
