SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The family of a 13-year-old boy killed Tuesday night said they are patiently waiting to get updates from police.
Jeff Taylor, father of Tyshawn Taylor, said he is trying to stay strong for his son as best as he can.
“Tyshawn was a wonderful son, brother, and friend,” Taylor wrote in a statement to ABC 57 News. “If anyone knows something, say something.”
His family has created a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs. Click here to donate.
As of Wednesday, St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office said there aren’t any further updates to the case and that it’s an ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson with the South Bend Community School Corporation confirmed that Tyshawn Taylor was an 8th grader at Thomas A. Edison Intermediate Center.
Lorenzo Davis, who taught Taylor starting in 6th grade, said he was devastated when he heard Taylor was dead.
“13-years-old, you know, he’s supposed to be enjoying his Christmas vacation,” Davis said. “You know, just doing things normal 13-year-olds do, and now his life was cut short.”
Davis said Taylor was a good, respectful student, who dominated on the basketball court. He said Taylor was his favorite student.
“I knew Tyshawn had dreams and goals,” Davis said. “He was a special kid.”
