Elkhart County Parks offering a dog sledding crash course Nov. 17

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Elkhart County Parks in partnership with Heartland Mushers Association will be teaching participants the art of dog sledding on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The program titled “Mushing 101” will happen on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in River Preserve County Park at Benton Dam located at 68552 C.R. 31.

The local Heartland Mushers Association will be offering the fundamentals in different styles of musing including traditional snow mushing, dryland mushing with bikes, canicross and rigs as well as how to use gear and where to find mushing resources.

The three-hour course will provide all supplies for Hoosiers and their canine companions.

Participants are encouraged to bring one dog, the program limit, weighing a minimum of eight pounds to class. The dogs must be kept on a leash on the preserve.

The event is open to all experience levels and ages with a cost of $10 dollars per person.

The deadline is Nov. 10 for payment and registration.
